New to Blender and can't get what am I doing wrong here. I'm trying to make an electricity bolt using the Displace modifier. I need to weight paint vertecies on the ends of the bolt so they are less affected by the Displace, but when I apply the vertex group the modifier stops affecting the bolt. The bolt is a single vert extruded to a line and subdivided multiple times.
update: here what happens when I try to weight paint the vertecies of the bolt. i can't use the gradient tool and the brush
