A video in MP4 imported in Blender doesn't work. I can see the video in the preview, but when I render it, it is transformed in a single image.

I created a new project, selected the camera, and then drag'n'dropped an MP4 video in the viewport.
I created a new 3D object that rotates in front of the video.

The 3D object renders correctly, but the video doesn't play.
The video plays correctly only in preview mode.

  • $\begingroup$ After editing the question to make it more readable, I believe the issue is actually that the user used a background video, which isn't renderable. See blender.stackexchange.com/a/38464/53447 So I must close this question as duplicate, Though I doubt the author would come back 4 years later to check if it is indeed the right answer or ask for reopening x) $\endgroup$

I'm guessing your output information is set to an image output. You need to change it to a video output in the properties panel (see image below). Then hit Render > Render Animation.

RenderAnimation

You also may need to change some audio settings, which I would need to research to remember how.
