Incorrect Context error when calling bpy.ops.view3d.object_as_camera()
So it turns out -
I had to add area.spaces.active.region_3d.view_perspective = 'CAMERA'
this in the loop.

Ok, I think I got it ..
We can get the focal length by using bpy.data.cameras.values()[0].lens. We can set this value as well.
