Mar 24, 2017 at 21:18 comment added Jaroslav Jerryno Novotny So, on a sphere there is no distortion. Any surface shape with curvature greater than sphere will be stretched in and with curvature less than sphere will be stretched out. This corresponds pretty much with the pointines - i.imgur.com/3nx6hTK.png. Thresholding this should hopefully give what you need. There is a small problem with camera position, for correctness it should be taken in account (mainly when moved to the side - it changes the distortion), but I am unsuccessful with that yet.
Mar 24, 2017 at 20:59 comment added Ascalon @Jerryno I am using the edited version with the transform set to Normal.

Mar 24, 2017 at 20:30 comment added Ascalon @Jerryno I should have said grayscale from 0 to 1, not a full black and white. I can always color ramp it for full black and white. Have updated the question. Thanks!
Mar 24, 2017 at 20:30 comment added Ascalon @lemon it's the same as in the linked question. Normal transformed from Object to Camera, then mapped with x and y location of .5 and x and y scale of .5
Mar 24, 2017 at 11:57 comment added Jaroslav Jerryno Novotny The stretching is not on/off case, the amount of stretching is gradual on all of suzanne's surface. The question is, where would you like the threshold to be?
Mar 24, 2017 at 8:38 comment added lemon Could you indicate your exact node setting so that there is no confusion about it?
