Sep 6, 2016 at 12:05 comment added ajwood I learned a new technique here, so thanks! Unfortunately UV Projection turned out being really expensive on my big brain mesh..
Sep 3, 2016 at 18:09 comment added lemon @ajwood, I wont be there for the next steps (away from BSE for some weeks), but you should upload a more specific shape in your question so that others can help you more
Sep 3, 2016 at 18:07 comment added ajwood I think this gets quite close to what I need, but I'm still experimenting. Will let you know if it turns out to work for me.
Sep 3, 2016 at 18:02 comment added lemon @ajwood, Oh... was it clear that all that affects the UV map positions ?
Sep 3, 2016 at 18:00 comment added lemon Note : this is not sure to be what you really need (even if I think this is close to). Maybe someone else will give a more accurate solution (I dont know)...
Sep 3, 2016 at 17:59 comment added lemon @ajwood, I think this is needed : we want this image (with its color) to be projected so that it can be used in the mix shader node. Without this 'visible' image, that does not work (or there is something I am missing)
Sep 3, 2016 at 17:57 comment added ajwood so the UV Project modifier doesn't need an image and Override Image checked?
Sep 3, 2016 at 17:56 comment added lemon @ajwood, you mean the other image files in the blend ? they were for test purpose. If you mean the texture, itself (whatever it is), this is to oriented where the hole will be. The UV project keeps the center of the texture projected from where is the camera as the camera is used to project it
Sep 3, 2016 at 17:23 comment added ajwood What's the purpose of transparency.png in the UV Projection?
