Aug 16, 2023 at 11:27 comment added Jeet GT Update: Blender team has now confirmed this bug. They also said that cloth physics is now only maintained (no proper development done since the last 3 years), so this may remain open for a long time. But it is good that we have an officially reported open bug on this, hopefully sometime it gets fixed in the future.
Aug 16, 2023 at 11:19 comment added Jeet GT @taiyo Thanks for the insightful answer. My thought is, we can handle the imperfections in the cloth physics itself, without burdening the user to experiment with what works & what does not work. Simply adding a low-power displacement before the cloth physics makes it always work AFAICT. This can be done by cloth physics with an optional input or maybe by default as well, so that any flat object in any location is guaranteed to show a (real) cloth behavior.
Aug 16, 2023 at 10:54 comment added Jeet GT @JohnEason That's not true. If you Google it or just search within this site, you'll see how many similar issues are reported (I have gone through each of them in the search for a proper fix and then I am writing this). People told me on personal chat that they have raised this bug earlier as well and it was closed down without any fix. So the point you said, I am the only one, that is not correct my friend.
Aug 15, 2023 at 6:50 comment added taiyo @JeetGT sry mate, but you're exaggerating in the bug report. Imo it should be closed. What the devs tell you is actually correct. Please take your time and read my answer here. You're creating an artificial simulation situation and expect it to behave like in real world. You need to tweak the setup and not mangle the cloth solver. Granted, the results are confusing at first sight.

Aug 14, 2023 at 16:49 comment added John Eason Blender is free software and there are only a limited number of developers working on it. You seem to be the only person who has encountered this issue so it's unreasonable to expect the developers to investigate it.
Aug 14, 2023 at 16:45 comment added Jeet GT @JohnEason Their response is clear but not reasonable enough. The explanation is utterly wrong because moving the flag stops cloth physics quite opposite to what they said. Secondly, if a piece of cloth is perfectly shaped, it should still fall down due to gravity. Not doing so should be considered a bug & expecting that to happen should be a basic requirement, not a new feature request. If we agree to count it as a new feature request, I am worried that it will be shelved for many years like many important feature requests are pending since 2016 or even earlier without a resolution till date.
Aug 14, 2023 at 9:31 comment added John Eason They are quite clear as to why it isn't considered to be a bug so I think you'll be out of luck: "Moving the mesh introduces larger floating point errors that introduce this noise into mesh. As far as solver is concerned, the piece of cloth is so stiff and flat, that it supports itself. The issue reported here is a request for modified behavior and not a bug in current behavior. this bug tracker is only for bugs and errors."
Aug 14, 2023 at 8:20 comment added Jeet GT Update: Blender team has just closed the above issue without any resolution. I have reopened the ticket, but I think they will again close it because they can't fix it. I request everyone who is facing the same issue to go there ( projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/111013 ) and ask for a resolution/fix. If there are more people behind me, hopefully they will look into it, otherwise they will ignore it.
Aug 10, 2023 at 18:22 comment added Jeet GT Not yet, still in "Needs Triage" status. But it has been just a couple of hours, so I am hoping something by tomorrow. Here is the link to the bug report: projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/111013
Aug 10, 2023 at 18:12 comment added John Eason Has it been confirmed as a bug? - They're pretty quick to triage bug reports nowadays.

Aug 10, 2023 at 17:22 comment added Jeet GT @JohnEason Yes, I already reported this to Blender. Additionally I posted here, just in case someone knows about a work-around, or any other suggestion. My work is completely stuck due to this. There has to be some workaround, since it is so basic in nature and it seems to exist from very old versions till date :(

Aug 10, 2023 at 16:18 comment added John Eason THere are no Blender programmers here and no-one here has any association with the Blender Foundation. If you think you've found a bug you should report it through the official Help > Report a Bug route in Blender.
