Splitting Image Editor How to split a certain area using python?

My screen has different areas: a 3D viewone 3D View and 2 image editorstwo Image Editors.

I would like to split one of the image editor area. ButImage Editors but when I usecall the function

bpy.ops.screen.area_split()

bpy.ops.screen.area_split() operator, I am only ableit's always going to split the 3D view3D View for whatever reason.

Does anyone know how I can split a solutioncertain area?
