Yes you can do this (even more efficiently then in the video I think)

  • Select an edge ring. (ctrl+alt+rmbCtrl+Alt+RMB)
  • Edge Menu -> Edge Loops (or Ctrl+ECtrl+E, PkeyP)
  • Edge Menu -> Subdivide (Adjust smooth)
