Non-Photorealistic Rendering is a technique that focuses on cartoony, anime like and painterly style digital art as well as mimicing more traditional art forms. Blender's toon shaders and Freestyle are often used in this style of rendering.

NPR rendering often involves toon/cel shading and lineart provided by freestyle, but many different styles are possible. NPR can be used to mimic more 'traditional' artistic styles such as watercolor, sketching, painting, etc.
