The warning on the UI

enter image description here

is only telling you this is an Exporter add-on only. "Importer not included". Everyone using that version of the add-on will see that warning. It's not an error, if you look at the files in the three.js repository (blender/addons/io_three) you'll see that there's only an Exporter.

As for the report in the Warning panel, that's different. That might be down to how you installed it. It works for me and I know mrdoob tests this addon on osx too. (but maybe not lately?)

This being said, there is a difference between the Python implementations supplied with Blender on the various platforms. Perhaps others can confirm and maybe file a bugreport where appropriate.

My approach to this add-on, and most add-ons that are on a git repo is this.

do this once

(have git installed)

  • pick a scripts folder in the UserPreferences, store it in the default .blend using Ctrl+U

    enter image description here

  • Make a dedicated git/github directory to keep your downloads/clones organized. Maybe call it GITHUB.

do this whenever you add a new repo / clone

  • Open up a console/terminal window in the dedicated directory then type the command:

     git clone https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js.git && cd three.js

This clones the entire three.js repository into a folder called three.js

  • then make the symbolic link:

    > ln -s /yourfullpath/GITHUB/three.js/utils/exporters/blender/addons/io_three ~/yourotherfullpath/scripts/addons_contrib/io_three

This tells your system to make a symbolic link at ......./scripts/addons_contrib/io_three that points to the utils/exporters/blender/addons/io_three folder

You can also do a sparse checkout, meaning you could clone a subfolder of a repository. This repository is a perfect example of where that would be handy because the main repo is 150 meg or so.

Why go through the hassle?

because if you want to update the addon all you have to do is go to the terminal and navigate to the github directory and do

 git pull --all

whereas if you want to update via zip, or downloaded files you have to copy and paste them manually, or zip the folder called io_three and use install from file, which seems like more work.
