Using the simple technique shown here, I could inherit hair particle colors from an image. But as the following image shows, once I select "Emit from Verts" instead of "Faces", the hair particles don't inherit the color anymore. Is there a way to re-enable this functionality while still emitting from vertices and still using hair particles ? (In Cycles only)

Hair particles color when emitted from faces (top) or vertices (bottom)

  • $\begingroup$ Not sure if it will help, but have you tried using a non-hair type of particle system instead? Since you aren't using hair strands specifically it may help? $\endgroup$ – Duarte Farrajota Ramos Nov 10 '16 at 0:33
  • $\begingroup$ Yes I've tried and it does the same as soon as I emit from vertices, or even use the grid mode (since the idea is to have the particles aligned on a grid) $\endgroup$ – ChameleonScales Nov 10 '16 at 12:50
  • $\begingroup$ I think it's a known limitation of the current system, not sure there's any way around it currently. See if this helps, it's a workaround but might work $\endgroup$ – Duarte Farrajota Ramos Nov 10 '16 at 19:31

I found a pretty stable/flexible solution to this and made a tutorial about it. Try it and give your feedback on it !

$\begingroup$ Hi! Please include all relevant steps into your answer rather than making a tutorial. Link only answers are discouraged as if the link goes down then so does the answer. If that's to heavy, please include at least some of the steps... Thanks @ChameleonScales $\endgroup$ – p2or Mar 7 '17 at 10:45

$\begingroup$ Ok I'll do it. It's pretty long though so I'll have to find the time. $\endgroup$ – ChameleonScales Mar 8 '17 at 17:01
