In my post about the Asymmetrical Basketball Carlo explained how a basketball is made. In the tutorial seams are made not only at the "diagonals" but also at the horizontal and vertical loops, but this is done on the "assumption" that the basketball is symmetric I think.

Question 1 If the basketball is made like Carlo explained then I would think that you set the seams only on the diagonal loop because then you get exactly the two pieces of which the basketball is made (like below).

Is this correct ? I ask this also because I am a beginner in UV unwrapping and I want to understand the why and how of UV unwrapping better.

Question 2 In the beginning of Part 2 of this tutorial some adjustments on the UV map are made. Is this also necessary in my UV map ? How does one know ?
