I am attempting to convert some zBrush VDM brushes to Blender VDM brushes using the VDM Brush Baker 1.0.2 in Blender 3.6. I have run into some problems when attempting this.

In the image below is the zBrush VDM converted to a mesh and brought into Blendr is on the right and on the left is the result from the the zBrush mesh baked to a Blender VDM using the VDM Brush Baker addon. Note the flat area on the sphere on the Blender Brush when put on the sphere. enter image description here

The resultant exr file form VDM Brush Baker creates a red area on the left side of the exr image as illustrated below. The background should be black. I believe this red area is why the brush creates a flat area on the sphere when applied. enter image description here

Has anyone else attempted to convert zBrush VDM brushes using the VDM Brush Baker got better results?

$\begingroup$ I don't know much about VDMs in ZBrush, or Blender really, but isn't it just an image that contains vectors instead of colors in its pixels? Why does it need converting using any baking process? Shouldn't it be possible to use the same image file in different software?.. $\endgroup$ Commented Jul 5, 2023 at 23:10
  • $\begingroup$ The image is in color and is an exr file, which you can get from zBrush. However, the image when extracted from zBrush is not ready for Blender. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ It's probably in different format. The first video I get in Google results for "ZBrush VDM to Blender" shows how to flip and scale color channels of the EXR. Of course Photoshop is unnecessary tool for this, you can use Blender's Compositor as well. $\endgroup$ Commented Jul 7, 2023 at 6:13
