I've been using Houdini and Blender for a while now, typically exporting animations as alembic and rendering in cycles, and have noticed very poor performance when playing back anything that starts to get close to heavy. I reckon it is something to do with the alembic cache as performance is helped when hiding the MeshSequenceCache modifier in the viewport and completely fixed when deleting it, but then what's the point?
I've made 2 scenes, both having 1m verts, 2m triangles but one is using an alembic
geo natively made in the blender - 60 fps (could be some extra juice, think it's locking there) alembic with MeshSequenceCache - 3.7 fps
Am I missing something?
