I am making a Stargate "Kawoosh" using a liquid sim and a collision object to agitate it.

I have enabled foam and I'm referencing an object for the particle that has the same material as the water (shown on the left). The material is the one created by blender when creating a quick liquid. I was already set to cycles when I did this.

I can see a few of the foam particles that are transparent, but most of them are dark, as in the picture.

I have watched many material node editor vids but I'm a bit overwhelmed as to what could be causing this.

I have turned off "shadow" under ray visibility for the reference sphere without success.

Any help greatly appreciated.
