How to add text label to a 2D gizmo overlay

Question

I've seen a lot of code (e.g., this) where people will add icons to 2D gizmo overlays in the 3D viewport. Is there any way to add text instead of an icon?

I'll the code I've seen will draw little things like this camera icon, but is there anyway to make a nice big button with text like the buttons in the sidebar?
