I've made a model that's too big for the built plate on my printer. I don't want to scale it down to fit as it's supposed to be big. Instead I'd like to cut it into pieces in Blender and glue it together once it's been printed.

I've previously tried manually cutting models down or printing them off as separate parts, but it's very time consuming.

It there any way that I can, for example, place a flat plain somewhere in 3D space and tell blender that everything above it should be exported\saved as one file and everything below it should be exported \saved as another file?

I've had a quick try with the Knife and Bisect tools but I haven't really gotten my heat round them yet.
