I recently made a model of a small cartoonish rocket following a tutorial and while the modelling is all done and it was relatively quick, I'm completely stuck on materials and textures.

I've watched multiple tutorials and read through some forums on here about the problem, went through the following steps, and yet, nothing changes. I'm in Look Dev mode, which is showing some texture, however its just blenders default texture.

I've gone through the process of linking and appending files, downloading pngs/jpgs and opening them in there, etc etc, and the only visible change I can find is the model shifting down by about a pixel whenever anything but the default texture is applied.

I've tried three different textures now, and they've all failed. Said textures are Green Pallasite, Clinker,(both from blendermada.com) and Streaked Metal from freepbr.com. The first two needed to be appended, so I did just that while the third was mainly just a png.

Another thing is that while I'm painting the model, the only way I can apply paint is if I have the base texture selected or I paint directly on the model.

Trying to paint on the UV mesh with the texture on it has only resulted in paint being applied to the texture, not the model. The Material Properties menu is able to render the texture perfectly fine in the preview, but just won't apply it to my model for some reason.

Any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it?

$\begingroup$ Hi and welcome :) I've taken the liberty of editing the text of your question so that it is a bit easier for users to read, feel free to roll back the edit if you disagree with the change :) I t would be helpful however, if you added an image or two of the scene, so that other users here can see the problem. Gifs work too Thanks :) $\endgroup$ – Timaroberts Oct 15 at 18:15
