I am following CG Geek's tutorial on how to use blender-osm to create a city in blender (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW_djQS_N8U).

He saves the satellite overlay image, then splits the building roofs from the buildings, and sets the color of the roofs to the overlay image. However, the image is not aligned with the buildings yet, so he manually moves it in the UV editor to get the two to match.

I want to automate this process using blender python, but have little idea on how to start/if it is even possible.

  • $\begingroup$ For it to work without manual tweaking, you need your satellite image texture to respect the aspect ratio and the dimensions of your city object bounding box when viewed from the top $\endgroup$ – Gorgious Jun 25 '20 at 8:40
