I am trying to export a model of an airplane to FBX, and I'm running into trouble with an animation that shows the landing gear extending/retracting. The landing gear is controlled by an armature and includes an IK piston. In Blender, the animation looks fine, but when I export it to FBX part of the piston on the left side detaches from the armature, moves independently, and scales itself down to zero as the landing gear extends. (See the images attached) The right side, which is a mirror of the left, still acts normally in the FBX model.

Landing gear in its stowed position. I've circled the part that isn't behaving properly.

Landing gear extending, the piston is detached and moving on its own.

As the animation continues the piston scales down along its long axis. By the time the gear is fully extended, the piston is invisible. It also doesn't rotate as it should.

I've checked and the name of the vertex group the piston belongs to matches the bone that should be animating it. I have tried deleting both the armature and the mesh on the left side and mirroring them from the right, but this doesn't change anything. What else can I do to fix this?

  • $\begingroup$ Update: Fixed by manually clearing and re-assigning all the vertex groups. $\endgroup$ – Theblackdog Jun 20 '20 at 21:56
