I'm sure this is a simple thing that I'm screwing up but I just have not been able to figure it out. I need to adjust the weights under the shoulder but whenever I subtract from the shoulder bone it moves the vertices back to the rest position instead of adjusting it closer to the mesh. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? It does this for any bone that I pose before painting. I also tried it in Maya and had the same result which leads me to believe I'm just misunderstanding something. enter image description here

  • $\begingroup$ in your gif it looks like you are actually adding weight for the chest bone, not subtracting from the shoulder bone $\endgroup$ – moonboots Jun 14 at 6:57
