I am starting on my attempt to do a fluid simulation with motion captured footage. I intend for the footage to run as a camera background and the fluid simulation in the foreground in front of the footage. The issue that I have is trying to simulate the light paths in the water from the scene. I am wondering; what would be the best approach to simulate the correct scene lighting for the water? Should I do projection mapping with emission/diffuse combination and recreate the scene with projected textures? Should I lock the exposure of my camera as to not get varying lighting conditions to get more consistent projection maps? How about an HDRi, should I use one of those instead or maybe create my own? I'm wondering what would be best for a fluid simulation simulating the lighting environment of the motion tracked footage. Thanks!
