I have a tree branch object with a noise texture for color and displacement. I want to add texture painting into that so I can paint the knots onto the branch along with any other discoloration I might want. I'm using an add shader for 2 Principled BSDF's: the noise texture and the texture painting attempt:
For some reason, I cannot figure out how to paint on my texture layer, neither in the 3D Viewport nor the Image Editor. I have a paintbrush and a texture layer, have it UV unwrapped, have it in the Texture Slots as the texture image ("Texture Attempt").... But it won't let me paint.
I made a test Blend file where I reproduced a simpler version of what I'm making - a plane with a noise texture and an image texture going into an add shader, and I can paint on the image texture. At some point, I had to start switching from Rendered view to Lookdev and back to get the paint stroke to update, but at least I can paint! If anyone could also speak to that issue, that would also be nice!
I've watched a ton of tutorials, read a ton of threads, googled a bunch of stuff - I can't find the broken part of my file.
Can you find what's wrong?
