I'm relatively new to blender, and am working on creating a car livery for the formula student team I'm on. I have managed to import the car CAD as an STL file, however blender seems to think of it as one entire entity, rather than individuals parts. I keep trying to paint the livery on, but get an error message that texture had been detected. I have tried UV unwrapping it, but this just causes the program to crash... Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Blender generally reads the file as is by default, it doesn't preform any actions without user consent. If it comes as a single object than it was probably exported that way. $\endgroup$ – Duarte Farrajota Ramos Jan 28 at 23:00
