in Blender 2.8, the UV Editor in the UV Editing workspace looks normal. However, in the Shading workspace, if I select this editor into one of the areas it looks similar the Image Editor and the overlays are missing:

If I switch back the Layout workspace and select edit mode, then the UV Editor in the UV Editing workspace appears normal. Why does this happen?

  • $\begingroup$ Check the image data block, it has to be empty to show the grid we see in the picture you posted. Probably in your case is showing you the render result. $\endgroup$ – Igor Svara Nov 5 '19 at 13:56
