After downloading 2.8 on Linux Mint, the blender.desktop shortcut doesn't open the application; it simply displays "There was an error launching the application". Running the executable directly works without any flaws.

  • $\begingroup$ Is the path in the .desktop correct? $\endgroup$ – Robert Gützkow Aug 18 '19 at 8:06
  • $\begingroup$ Yes, the executable is in the same folder and the name is correct. $\endgroup$ – devvoid Aug 19 '19 at 1:16
  • $\begingroup$ Be sure the .desktop file refers to /dir/to/blender and not /dir/to/Blender $\endgroup$ – Tim Kuipers Aug 20 '19 at 9:31
  • $\begingroup$ the file uses exec=blender, blender is in the exact same directory. $\endgroup$ – devvoid Aug 21 '19 at 0:20
