I am trying to access the light direction in shader editor to make a custom lighting shader, but couldn't find such node?

  • Alternatively, if anyone can come up with a conversion from blinn-phong shininess/glossiness to BSDF roughness, I am all ears; AFAIK this isn't possible without knowing the shader implementation details, tried a few conversion myself, not happy with the limited result.

  • If one just want toon shading, then there is Shader To RGB / Color Ramp node to make it possible; but light direction is still missing, hence I can't create a simple blinn-phong shading.

Obvious this problem only exists in Blender 2.8 + EEVEE (Look Dev), where most shaders are BSDF.

  • $\begingroup$ I was told driver could do this, and I did tried, but I can't figure out a way to convert SunLight rotation into SunLight direction using expression. Because we can only access 1 property, ref1, ref2 $\endgroup$ – bitinn Aug 5 at 10:14
