In Cinema 4D, there is a formula spline whose shape is dictated by a vector valued function. This allows me to create very unique shapes very easily, such as the following:

I am not sure if there is an efficient way to achieve results like this in Blender. Is it possible to define splines from vector valued functions to create models like this in Blender, and if so, how? If it involves Python programming, I am open to this, but I would greatly appreciate an example.
