What I've come to realize is that although the measure tool is good, it's not entirely reliable in certain situations, and can give a person the wrong impression about a mesh. For example if you want to measure the distance between 2 vertices, but one is higher than the other, it affects the final measurement. When it comes to extruding things in Blender it makes it so that sometimes measuring the distance of an object by vertices alone may make it moderately cumbersome. That's why I wanted to be able to snap the measuring tool to the grid, so I could look at it in top view and know I'm getting a more precise measurement of how it looks in top view straight across. I could just snap everything to the grid, and call it a day, but if I wanted to double check I wanted an easier way to do it.
