video of the behavior

Can someone explain how click select works in blender? It seems weird that every time I click in object mode, it sort of cycles through the overlapping objects. I would assume you would want to click only on the object that is right in front of you. If this is the intended behavior of selecting in blender, what's the best method to handle a scene with hundreds of objects

  • $\begingroup$ I'm assuming you're using the right mouse button and trying to select an object. Splitting a scene and redistributing the blocking objects to other layers is one way to declutter the view. My usual method is to press Z in object mode to get everything in wireframe view and click on one edge of that object. If the sheer number of lines that will appear are too confusing, zoom up whilst in Solid or Material view, place your 3D cursor (or add an Empty) on an edge of the object to act as a marker. Press Z and click on that edge. $\endgroup$ – Edgel3D Mar 27 at 2:25
