This question already has an answer here:

I am a newbie user, trying to create an image for use in a wall graphic. The final image size needs to be 55,000 px X 5,500 px. In blender I have a render set up and a compositing set up and it works for a smaller image size. But when I go to this large size (or even half of this) it hangs up at some point.

If there is a way that I could break the image into thirds or quarters and render each one separately, then I could join them together in an image editing program. In the render tool panel I see "border" and "crop" as options, but I don't see where the border is actually set. Would one of those be the path to a solution, or is there some other way to tell it to just render the first quarter of the image, the second quarter, etc.

Thank you.
