The lens cover on this 67 Mark IV is all one piece - the black surround is somehow a part of the overall molded plastic - probably to maximize air flow. Possibly it's painted inside.

I've modeled the cover. I tried to use geometry to set the outside vertices to black, but even though I have them well placed it just does not look right. Can't get the inside corners for one.

Is there another way to do this that doesn't involve layering geometry? I don't think any sort of UV wrap will work here due to the wack shape, it'd be almost impossible to set up a texture that would look right.

My only idea now is to dupe the lens cover, cut out the middle vertices and have that sit just below the lens cover. I don't think it will look right though.
