The challenge is to print an aerofoil on end. There are problems with printing aerodynamic surfaces with a face or apex contacting the print bed, so I want to see if I can do it on end. There are no overhangs on this part, it is straight vertical.

Parts printed in ABS or PC ABS show dramatic layer shifts and stepping. Deductive thinking leads me to the conclusion that the extruder is pushing the part around due to part flex, the base of the aerofoil is firmly adherent to the bed when printing is done so first layer adhesion is good. Manipulation of extruder or filament settings do not fix the problem.

What does this have to do with Blender? I need something to stop the part from flexing in response to movement of the extruder, adding some columnar supports with easily removed bridges (see picture of someone else's part) columnar part supports for tall thin partor an X or Y shaped set of braces in contact with the aerofoil would do this.

My problem is that despite watching about 5 - 6 hours of Blender tutorials, I have not developed the skills to: 1. Import the aerofoil .obj file into the workspace exactly at the origin, or import and transform to the origin, rather than some random spot in the 3 D workspace. 2. Make sure that the part is full size in blender, meaning that a 165 x 45 x 3.5 mm aerofoil measures 165 x 45 x 3.5 mm during design and as a final part. 3. Create cylindrical or rectangular shapes adjacent to the aerofoil in a way that a slicer (Slic3r) won't print as a contiguous solid sharing an uninterrupted filament deposition path with the part but will contact the part's surface in a way that braces it from movement.

I am asking for a lot, perhaps there are tutorials that I have not seen that can communicate the exact skills I need to have to get the job done, any help is appreciated.
