How can I make such cutouts in the cylinder in blender? Boolean operations? Or there is an easier way to do this?

Thank you!

Here is a way to do it:

  • Create a cylinder (32 vertices).
  • Cut it in half in its width and give it a Mirror modifier.
  • Create 2 central edge loops, keep these edges selected and use the Shear tool to incline them.
  • Cut a hole between these 2 edges, on the top.
  • Create a circle (12 vertices) with a diameter shorter than the hole, place it at the bottom of the hole, rotate it a bit so that it follows approximately the tilt of the cylinder.
  • Create some additional edge loops on the bottom of the cylinder, enough to make the joint with the circle.
  • Cut the top of the circle and join its bottom with the new edge loops.
  • Make some extrusions on your cylinder hole.
  • Now the circle has merged with the cylinder and the slot is round.
  • Extrude down this slot.
  • Fill the gap.
  • Add a Subdivision Surface modifier to your object, add some edge loops to make the angles look sharper.
  • Duplicate the object, etc.
